The traditional Black London Cab is manufactured in Coventry by LTI. Sadly last month, the owners of LTI - Manganese Bronze went into administration and 99 jobs at the factory were cut.
Now there is a Facebook campaign set up by the Unite Union to try and save jobs at LTI. The Southampton Hackney Association are in full support of the Unite's efforts in campaigning for the remaining workers at Coventry to stay in employment, and would urge others to put comments on the 'Save our Black Cabs' Facebook page.
The Coventry Telegraph reporting on the job losses at LTI reports that:
"Workers axed by Coventry black cab manufacturer LTI joined union officials in Broadgate on Saturday to urge members of the public to sign an online petition.....Peter Coulson, regional officer for the Unite Union, said: 'We have been astonished by the amount of support that we have received from the general public."
The Save our Black Cabs Facebook page's aim is to encourage people to support the Unite campaign by signing their petition which asks the administrators to do everything possible to encourage any potential buyer to commit to the black cab continuing to be built in Coventry.

It's the time of year for the Southampton Boat Show again! The show begins on the 14th September and runs to the 23rd of the month.
As well as hundreds of boats on show, there are opportunities to try out boating products, get out on the water, and meet some famous faces too!
Getting to the boat show couldn't be easier with the easy to spot White Southampton Taxis to meet you at the Train Station, and available to hail and ride throughout the whole of the city. Absolutely no need to pre-book!

Members of the SHA are currently working on trying to collate information from the archives in Southampton Council regarding the history of the taxi trade in the City going right back to the days of The Watch Committee that were in charge of the Hanson Cabs in the late 1800's.
Have you any information that might help us? Perhaps you are a member of a local history society with photos and information we could take a look at?
If you would like to contact our association / info@southamptontaxis.org with photos and information it really would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you :O)
